ARC offers the opportunity to work on thoughtful, mission-driven projects within a collaborative studio environment where people are encouraged to contribute ideas, grow professionally, and engage meaningfully in the design process. We believe the best work comes from teams that are curious, invested, and supportive of one another, and we value designers who want to help shape both projects and practice over time.
About the Role
We are seeking a Designer with 6–10 years of experience who is passionate about design, technically strong, and eager to take an active role in complex and collaborative project work. This position is ideal for someone ready to balance thoughtful design contributions with increasing responsibility in project delivery, coordination, and team collaboration.
You’ll work across a variety of project types and phases, contributing to design studies, documentation, client presentations, technical coordination, and project development. We are looking for someone who enjoys both the creative and technical sides of architecture and is interested in growing as a designer, collaborator, and project contributor within a supportive studio environment.
What You’ll Do
Begin to develop a focused area of interest and expertise in athletics and wellness, science and innovation, higher education, arts and culture, independent schools, or the technical aspects of the profession
Demonstrate strong design sensibility and a passion for creating impactful spaces and experiences
Work independently on architectural assignments while collaborating closely with project teams
Develop design studies, layouts, presentations, and technical documentation across multiple phases of work
Perform analyses related to design, planning, occupancy, and project functionality, contributing thoughtful input to project development and decision-making
Utilize Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and related software to support project delivery and visual communication
Understand and contribute to project specifications through research, product evaluation, and coordination
Prepare clear, thoughtful written communication including notes, reports, and presentation materials
Manage personal workflow and priorities to support project schedules, deadlines, and team coordination
Recognize the relationship between project delivery, team efficiency, and project finances
Participate actively in design reviews, office-wide conversations, and firm knowledge-sharing efforts
Contribute to project pursuits, interviews, and marketing efforts as needed
Support ARC’s collaborative culture through mentorship, teamwork, and active engagement beyond project work
What We’re Looking For
Professional degree in Architecture
6–10 years of professional experience in architecture or interiors
Licensure preferred, but not required
Strong design, organizational, and technical skills
Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication abilities
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and collaboration skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within project teams
Interest in contributing to office culture, mentorship, and shared learning
Positive attitude, curiosity, and commitment to thoughtful design practice
Desire to contribute to the growth and evolution of the firm beyond day-to-day project responsibilities
ARC is a 40-person design firm based in Boston, built around the idea that thoughtful design comes from listening, collaboration, and a genuine exchange of ideas. We work across athletics and wellness, education, arts, and science, often on complex projects where relationships and trust matter as much as design.
We are a small firm by choice. That means people are close to the work, close to clients, and close to decision-making. It also means there is real opportunity to shape how things are done. We value people who are curious and creative, not in a performative way, but in how they think, write, and make. The best ideas here tend to come from people who are engaged in the work and willing to explore, test, and refine them alongside others.
